Background

The Aims of Sydenham Community Partnership include:

  • Renew deprived areas and develop strong, sustainable, healthy and safe communities
  • Tackle inequality and promote diversity, community cohesion and social inclusion and build an inclusive community
  • Provide or secure the provision of social services, educational and recreational facilities and practical assistance for elderly and disabled people within the area of benefit
  • Provide or secure the provision of local representative lobbying and delivery structures, welfare rights advice and information and refer those in need of professional assistance to the relevant agencies
  • Provide, maintain and equip or assist in the provision, maintenance and equipment of appropriate premises and facilities designed to carry out the objects of the Partnership
  • Promote and carry out, or assist in promoting and carrying out research, surveys and investigations and publish the useful results thereof
  • Organise or assist in organising meetings, planning days, training and community consultations and present findings to wider community

In order to achieve these, the Partnership shall:

  • Oversee the implementation of the Sydenham Community Partnership Action Plan ensuring that local citizens and stakeholders are effectively engaged in the development and review of the Plan
  • Provide a forum to debate and discuss local issues that affect the social, economic and environmental well being of the community and build local community consensus on the local priorities
  • Ensure that the Action Plan is representative of the diversity of local organisations and residents and their needs
  • Develop a programme to monitor and review the implementation of the Action Plan and adapt plans to meet changes in local priorities
  • Challenge the poor performance of partners in implementing the Partnership Action Plan
  • Co-ordinate local service provision and seek ways of providing more joined up local services and facilities, identifying service gaps and fostering innovation
  • In order to prevent duplication of work, rationalise and combine existing plans, partnerships and regeneration initiatives that are consistent with the Partnerships aims and objectives at neighbourhood, ward and district level
  • Develop common aims, joint priorities and shared commitment in the provision of services to the local community
  • Identify new resources and opportunities to meet local needs
  • Work with and influence neighbourhood, local, sub-regional, regional and national policy, lobbying on issues at local and sub-regional levels that affect the local community
